My daughter will be 1 next week. Where did the time go?! It’s hard to believe how much has changed and how much she has grown in the past year. I was blessed to have the opportunity to work for my family and be able to bring her to work with me every day. Although it brings multi-tasking to a whole new level, I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. It is one of the main motivators behind our move.
Looking ahead for year 2, it’s time for me to start thinking about what will be best for Mama and my little one.
Going to work with Mama…When I lost my job when I was pregnant, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do anymore. I had lost my dream job and felt completely shattered. Not only that, but I was pregnant and trying to interview jobs. Talk about an embarrassment. I wasn’t embarrassed that I was pregnant, but the fact that I knew I was qualified for plenty of jobs but at the end of the day I wouldn’t be hired because I was pregnant (illegal or not). So with no job and not knowing what I wanted to do. There was no way I saw myself jumping into any old job just to be sending my baby to daycare, especially when my salary would only cover the cost of the crazy expensive daycare. So my family and I relocated to NH from Boston and I was planning on working remotely for an event company when the opportunity to work for my family came out of nowhere. It was a blessing in disguise. Although I left the industry that I LOVE, I was able to take on a job that I enjoy, bring my daughter to work with me, and go home at the end of the day and just focus on my family.
Daycare…Now that she is almost 1, I’ve started the process of looking at daycares. It’s insane how hard it is to find not only a good daycare but a daycare that has availability. There is such an over demand for care for infants, and lack of support for working families that it is almost impossible to find daycare for a child under the age of 3. So as of right now, we are on waitlists, including Waldorf schools over 30 minutes away. At this rate, I’m thinking I should put her on a waitlist for preschool. I have to find daycare for this summer before work gets insane. If I can’t then we are going to be on a hunt for a nanny.
I’m so torn on what to do. I even keep trying to think of how I can make it work having a 1-year-old running around the office. Are you a Mom? When did you send your child to daycare? Did you have a hard time finding care? Did you a hire a nanny? What did you look for in a nanny?
